The Buffalo Bills have opened up training camp and not soon after were hit with their first piece of bad news. Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus failed his opening conditioning test and will miss at least the first week of camp.

Head coach Doug Marrone announced that Dareus was the big name that didn't pass the mandatory test, but he will get another chance on Thursday.

"At the present time he hasn't been able to pass all the tests to get him on the field, so we're working on that, trying to get him ready to go," Marrone said "He's not the only one, but obviously you want your players to come in ready to go. We're here for a long period of time so we'll make up for it.”

This is the latest hit to Dareus; he was arrested twice in May, once when he was found to be in possession of synthetic marijuana during a traffic stop, and the other when he crashed his car while being involved in a street race.

Marrone continued to talk about Dareus and said he wants his defensive stud to get his head in the right place.

"I just think right now he needs to focus on getting himself ready, getting in shape, getting on the field, and focusing on football.”

Dareus figures to be a big part of what the Bills want to do on defense, but first he needs to get himself on the football field and practice. Dareus will have a second opportunity to pass the test on Thursday, but will not be able to practice until he passes the test.

Other notable players to be placed on the non-football illness and injury lists are defensive tackle Alan Branch, linebacker Randell Johnson and, obviously, injured linebacker Kiko Alonso.
