The Toronto-based group led by Jon Bon Jovi is reportedly interested in not only acquiring the Buffalo Bills, but keeping the franchise the Western New York.
The Bills have been the subject of many talks about international expansion as the team has played occasional regular season games in Canada. The investment group includes Larry Tanenbaum and the Rogers family. Tanenbaum already controls the NHL's Maple Leafs and NBA's Raptors and is the active chairman of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.
According to ESPN, the Bills are locked into playing at Ralph Wilson Stadium until the 2019 season or risk paying a $400 million penalty for looking into relocation. Bon Jovi has expressed interest in owning an NFL team, but never specifically mentioned the Bills in any public conversations.
The New Jersey-born rocker was the owner of the Arena Football League’s Philadelphia Soul and even took home a championship with the team. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has expressed his support of Bon Jovi and believes that he would be a very good addition to the NFL.
The Bills are up for sale due to the death of owner Ralph Wilson back in March. Forbes recently valued the Buffalo Bills to be worth $870 million, but the team is expected to sell for at least $1.1 billion. Buffalo Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula and New York’s very own Donald Trump have also expressed interest in purchasing the Bills.
