Maybe Johnny Miller was right about Rory McIlroy, and indirectly Caroline Wozniacki.

USA TODAY Sports reported that on the day McIlroy won his third major, holding off Sergio Garcia by two strokes to win the British Open on Sunday, Wozniacki won her first WTA tournament of the year.

She defeated Roberta Vinci 6-1, 6-1 to win the Istanbul Cup, extending her streak of at least one win per year on the WTA tour to seven consecutive years.

It was a year ago just before the start of the British Open that Miller, a former golf champion now serving as an analyst for NBC Sports, talked about McIlroy's game being in trouble and identifying the root of that trouble.

Caroline Wozniacki says she's ready to step back from tennis and start a family with Rory McIlroy

"I think he's in love for the first time," Miller said to the San Francisco Chronicle, referring to McIlroy's relationship with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. "It's a wonderful feeling, and it's distracting."

McIlroy lost the No. 1 ranking to Tiger Woods. Meanwhile, Wozniacki, who was No. 1 in the world in 2010 and 2011 dropped to No. 15 this year. When the two were engaged to be married, she sounded like a woman ready to give up her career to start a family.

"I want to be a relatively young mother, and I do not see it as being too far in the future," Wozniacki told Lime as Tennis World reported in May. "I have always even been like that I would even want to bring up my children. Therefore, I have no dream to make my mark. Instead, I enjoy economic freedom (that) my hard work has given me. It means that I can give my children the best start in life by being there 100 percent for them."

McIlroy's cold feet - he broke off the engagement after they sent out wedding invitations shortly after her comments in May - has worked out well for both of them in a professional sense.

McIlroy now has won twice - he won the BMW PGA Championship on the weekend after going public with the breakup. Wozniacki has pulled herself together after an opening-round loss in the French Open to play better tennis - although she was the No. 1 seed in Istanbul.

Together, they could've had a great life. Apart, they could terrorize their respective sports of men's golf and women's tennis.
