Two clubs chasing the Apertura Liga MX title will do battle today in a league match between Chivas Guadalajara and Chiapas. The first-division clash scheduled for 6 p.m. ET will be held at the Estadio Omnilife in Guadalajara and can be live streamed free via the Univision Deportes mobile app. Additional TV coverage can be found on Univision Deportes.
Underachievement has plagued Chiapas in recent tournaments, but that hasn't kept manager Sergio Bueno from setting expectations for the 2014 Apertura. For the club strategist, the bar has been raised, promising a Liguilla run for the Mexican side.
"The need [to succeed] is greater now," Bueno said (via Vavel). "Last year, the team was formed to wage a battle against relegation because we started last in the percentage and now have several teams below us. That distance, if we cannot conserve it, can put us back in a fight for permanent residence."
"We are aware that this is our main battle," he added. "But we are also clear that this team was formed to reach other goals. The team we are carrying this tournament can make the Liguilla. That is our requirement and obligation in this tournament."
