The 2013 Premier League season is in the books. Now, Manchester City returns to the pitch with hopes of embarking on another league-title run in 2014. The club is continuing its summer tour this afternoon and will face Scottish outfit Hearts. The club friendly scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET will be held at Dens Park in Dundee and can be live streamed here (UK only).
A shock defeat to Dundee Football Club (2-0) kick started City's preseason campaign on Monday. Four days later, another Scottish club will look to flex its miniscule muscle against the English champions. Just don't expect Hearts manager Robbie Neilson to make much of it. The 34-year-old doesn't see today's contest as a big indicator for his club.
"Pre-season games, especially against big teams, you never know if they fancy it," Neilson told the Evening News (via Edinburgh News). "Playing at Dens Park is totally different from playing at Tynecastle. You run out at Tynecastle and, if there's 12,000 or 13,000 there, then you get the atmosphere and it becomes a more competitive game for everybody."
Neilson went on to add, "Do they [Manchester City] play the older boys from the start? They've brought a number of academy kids up with them as well. From our point of view, it's more about trying to implement what we want to do. It won't really be a big indicator for me."
"We're playing against a team where you don't know what you're going to get. I think the next games against Dundee and St Johnstone will be bigger indicators for us."
"They will be Scottish football games and Dundee and St Johnstone are in a league above us, so they'll want to prove a point."
Will Manchester City prove a point against their Scottish counterpart this afternoon? Tell us @SportsWN.
