The Green Bay Packers are close to signing an extension with linebacker Clay Matthews, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Schefter's sources are reporting that the deal will come in at or north of $13 million a year.

Matthews, 26, has a career total of 42.5 sacks in his four seasons in Green Bay, including 13 last season. The pro bowler had 204 tackles, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions in 58 career games since being drafted 26th overall in the 2009 draft out of USC.

The Packers are also continuing to negotiate an extension with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, with sources saying last week the sides are closing in on a long-term deal that would make him the highest-paid player in NFL history. Both sides are hesitant to comment on a potential extension, but leaguewide speculation is that the deal could average $25 million per year.

Green Bay finished first in the NFC North last season with an 11-5 regular season record. The Packers postseason ended with a 45-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
