The Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons have reopened trade talks that would send Josh Smith to Sacramento for a pair of players.

The Pistons would send Smith to the Kings in exchange for Jason Thompson and either Derrick Williams or Jason Terry. The Kings have targeted Smith as a third piece to go with the established frontcourt of DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay.

GM's Prefer Wiggins to Love

The Kings and Pistons both take a huge risk if this trade comes to pass as the Pistons risk losing a potential All-Star in Smith while the Kings take on a three year; $40.5 million contract. The Kings risk the most in this endeavor as Smith showed career lows across the board when paired with big men Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe. The Pistons, on the other hand, are trying to move as many pieces as possible and have also had discussions with the Portland Trailblazers of a sign-and-trade for Monroe.

Many believe the Kings are looking to acquire Smith because any deal would not involve a player that the Kings see in their immediate future. Other believe that Smith would be a solid addition if the Kings choose to pursue Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo as the two have a very close relationship.

The Kings have expressed interest in moving Jason Terry instead of buying out his $6 million deal.Terry has stated that he prefers to return to Dallas, but the only way that will occur is if the Kings’ trade talks completely fall apart.
