The 2013 Premier League season is in the books. Now, Liverpool FC returns to the pitch with hopes of embarking on a league-title run in 2014. The club is continuing its summer tour this afternoon and will face Danish outfit Brondby. The club friendly scheduled for 12 p.m. ET will be held at Brondby Stadium in Copenhagen and can be live streamed here free.
Summer transfer after summer transfer has captioned Liverpool's offseason, seeing the club's leading striker, Luis Suarez, land in Barcelona. Reinforcements have trickled in. Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Rickie Lambert are just a few of the players that have made the move to Anfield.
Having led the Reds and the Premier League in goals scored (31), however, many doubt the club's ability to repeat its 2013 form without Suarez. But manager Brendan Rodgers isn't marrying success to one player. According to the Kop boss, it's Liverpool's philosophy that will ensure success in the coming years.
"If there is one thing the history of this great club teaches us, it is that Liverpool FC is bigger than any individual," said Rodgers (via the Independent). "I am confident we will improve the team further and will be stronger for this coming season, when we will be competing on all fronts—domestically and in the greatest club competition in the world, the [UEFA] Champions League."
"We are focused on the future, as we strive to continue with the progress we have made and build on last season."
The future of Liverpool will be on display this afternoon, with a youthful lineup projected to start.
Liverpool's Projected Lineup (4-3-3): Jones; Wisdom, Kelly, Agger, Enrique; Can, Leiva, Coutinho; Suso, Ibe, Borini.
