WBC super welterweight /welterweight titleholder Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been the subject of many debates in mixed martial arts circles about whether or not UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey would be able to defeat the top pound-for-pound boxer in the world in a mixed martial arts fight.

Gloves won't be an issue for Mayweather-Maidana II?

Rousey retained her women's 135-pound title July with a 16-second TKO of Alexis Davis at UFC 175. Rousey's only been taken past the first round once in her 10 pro fights, leading some to believe that in an MMA bout she'd defeat Mayweather.

While in Washington on Tuesday to promote his Sept. 13 rematch with Marcos Maidana, Mayweather offered his of Rousey as a possibly opponent.

"I don't even know who he is," Mayweather said. When informed Rousey is a woman, he didn't recoil in anger or snap at the reporter. Instead he just laughed and said, "I [don't] know who that is."

In April UFC president Dana White added fuel by the barrel to the Mayweather or Rousey debate by making a bold statement about his highest-profile woman fighter.

Holly Holm next in line for super fight with Ronda Rousey?

"You put Ronda Rousey in any fight situation - a street fight, a mixed martial arts fight. Not only does she beat Floyd, she'll hurt Floyd really bad. But you take Ronda Rouseyand you put her in a boxing match, obviously we know what's going to happen there. But a real fight, Ronda Rousey will hurt Floyd. I don't know if anyone has seen Floyd in real life, but he's [a smaller guy]. If Ronda gets her hands on him, she'll hurt him. I've seen her throw big men and hurt them."

It will probably never be known who would win between them, but Floyd must focus on his upcoming bout with Maidana, whom he referred to as an MMA fighter in a press conference at the Marriot Marquis in Times Square, New York.

"I'm gonna rest a lot more and do a lot more physical training for this fight. Is it safe to say I'm not fighting a boxer, I'm fighting an MMA fighter."
