The Chicago Bulls have waived Carlos Boozer using the amnesty provision that will clear close to $13 million in salary cap space for Chicago. The Bulls plan to use the money to sign Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic, but what does being amnestied mean for Boozer?
Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski explained what happens after a player gets amnestied and even picked a few teams to watch. Teams with salary-cap space have the option to put in a blind bid on Boozer and the team that makes the highest bid will receive two-time All-Star.
One GM tells me: A team needs to have $1.448M in cap space to bid on Boozer. That's what Boozer's minimum salary is.

A team that puts in a bid for Boozer must bid at least $1.448 million as that is his minimum salary for the 2014-15 season. Teams can bid as high as they want as long as they stay under the salary cap, but the number they bid is the amount they have to pay Boozer for the upcoming season.
Wojnarowski believes that the Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks are two teams to watch when the bidding process begins as they have a need at forward and plenty of cap space. The Hornets, in particular, have been active this free agency and recently signed Pacers guard Lance Stephenson.
Plenty of teams with salary cap space, but two early favorites to make bids on Carlos Boozer: Charlotte and Atlanta. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 15, 2014
If no team puts in a bid on Boozer, he will be an unrestricted free agent and will be free to sign with any team he chooses. Boozer averaged 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for the Bulls last season, but the additions of Gasol and Mirotic made Boozer’s services obsolete.
