The press tour for Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana II has kicked off, and many are wondering about the glove controversy from their first fight and how it will affect things in the rematch. Mayweather's team had an issue with the types of gloves Maidana was wearing, and forced him to change them shortly before fight night.

In the New York media press conference Tuesday afternoon, Maidana addressed the controversy and indicated it wouldn't be an issue for their September 13 bout.

Mayweather promises big surprise in May

"We still haven't finalized that aspect of the bout but it'll get done," Maidana said.

When asked why he agreed to the fight despite the issue not being resolved, Maidana's answer was simple.

"It doesn't matter I'm still going to fight him no matter what gloves I'm fighting in. I would love to fight in my own gloves but it doesn't matter to me I'm still going to fight him. I'm going to take advantage of this opportunity and not let it go away."

He went on to explain that he wasn't trying to gain any sort of edge, but rather it was a comfort issue. "The gloves that I use are very comfortable to me," Maidana said.

"They fit very well on my hands and that's the reason there was that big controversy because I wanted to use my gloves. Its like playing football or soccer and you're wearing the wrong shoes."

Mayweather, however, disputed Maidana's reasoning. "We grabbed the gloves and it had no padding in it at all," Mayweather said.

Throughout Mayweather's portion of the press conference, he touched on Maidana's "dirty" in-ring tactics and related them to the glove issue prior to the opening bell.

"If I had those type of gloves I wouldn't even want to compete...if I had to cheat. First we want to use gloves with no padding, then we want to use knees and elbows and heads and rabbit shots," Mayweather said.

"Like I said my back is always against the wall, when I'm out there competing. Like I said my last fight, we can get the same gloves. Let's get the same gloves and go out there and compete, and he said no."
