Carlos Boozer's days in Chicago are over. The Bulls used the amnesty clause Tuesday on its power forward, and have until Wednesday to place him on waivers. The decision was confirmed by the Bulls on NBA.com.
Yahoo! Sports first reported the news Tuesday.
Boozer is slated to earn $16.8 million during the 2014-2015 season. Teams with salary-cap room can now submit blind bids for his services. The team that puts forth the highest bid will acquire Boozer.
Chicago must pay the difference between the winning bid and what's remaining on Boozer's salary.
Since coming to the Bulls from the Utah Jazz four years ago, Boozer has struggled to reclaim his All-Star status. He averaged just 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds last season. Those numbers are a far cry from the 19.5 points and 11.2 rebounds he registered during the 2009-2010 season -- his last in Utah.
"Carlos epitomized professionalism in everything he did for the Bulls both on the court, and in the community, during his time here in Chicago," said Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman. "Over the last four seasons, Carlos' productivity helped elevate our team to another level. I have nothing but respect for Carlos, and certainly wish him the best as he moves forward."
With most of Boozer's salary coming off its books, the Bulls will have more financial flexibility to execute the signings of Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic.
The Bulls also released Lou Amundson, Mike James and Ronnie Brewer.
