Two clubs in the Western Conference of MLS will do battle today in a league match between the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers. The first-division clash scheduled for 10 p.m. ET will be held at CenturyLink Field in Seattle and can be live streamed here free. Additional TV coverage can be found on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.
Just days after the Sounders eliminated the Timbers in the U.S. Open Cup (3-1), both teams return to the pitch. This time, however, league points are on the line. These two heated rivals are separated by whopping 14 points in the standings, with Seattle holding the advantage. Transforming a struggling defense is the key to a resurgent run from Portland. A newly acquired Liam Ridgewell hopes to be at the forefront of it.
"Hopefully I can bring a bit of experience and hopefully I can help that backline," Ridgewell told the media (via MLS's official website). "I'm not coming in here to take people's position and things like that. I'm coming in to help people and slot myself in and make sure we keep a clean sheet in a lot of the games and make sure we win some games."
