NFL Draft: Star Lotulelei OK'd By Doctor To Play

Dr. Josef Stehlik of the University of Utah Cardiology notified the NFL in a letter that "it is safe" for Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei "to participate in professional athletics without restrictions", according to ESPN.com. Loutulelei is one of the top prospects in the 2013 NFL draft, but was prohibited from working out at the NFL scouting combine after a heart concern was flagged.

Dr. Stehlik wrote in the letter that Lotulelei's abnormal test result may have resulted from a viral infection and that subsequent tests have shown a "complete normalization of the heart muscle function." Lotulelei participated at Utah's pro day last month and impressed many scouts.

The 6-foot-2, 311-pound Lotulelei unofficially recorded a 30-inch vertical leap, registered 38 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press and clocked a 4.65 time in the shuttle run.

While at Utah, Lotulelei recorded 41 tackes and 5.0 sacks last season. A three-year starter, Lotulelei played in 32 career games and ended his collegiate career with 107 total tackles, 7.0 sacks, four forced fumbles five touchdowns.
