There has been a lot of speculation that Kurt Angle will wind down his career in the WWE, but the rumors took a hit recently when photos of Angle allegedly "passed out" on a plane were circulated in WWE, angering the former Olympic gold medalist and possibly hurting his standing in the company.

UFC Star Rashad Evans Talks Possible WWE Career

Angle, who has had issues with substance abuse in the past, spoke about photos of him asleep on a plane being circulated at a recent creative meeting at SmackDown and went on Twitter to clear up the speculation..

"Rumors are the root of evil. The truth will endure. Here is the truth!" I'm excited to say I'm coming up on My 1 year anniversary of being clean and sober," Angle wrote. "Im Very Humbled. GOD has truly Blessed Me. It's been a difficult but exciting road to living alcohol/drug free. Then some heartless individuals want to create rumors of Me "passed out" on a plane. Wow! I guess You can't take a nap on a plane when Youre a recovering addict. But it only makes Me want to stay clean even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The Rock Unlikely For WrestleMania 31

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, there is some truth to the rumors of a photo of Angle being passed around at WWE creative recently as he was on a flight with some WWE guys either coming from or going to his hometown of Pittsburgh.

It has been said that whatever happened with Angle on the plane doesn't bode well for the WWE and didn't help his cause as the company has been wary of bringing Angle back due to his history with substance abuse.

Angle appeared on WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross' Ross Report podcast on Podcastone.com and said that he has not renewed his contract with TNA because he's keeping his options open. Angle is recovering from a knee injury but said he will be ready to return come October.

Angle said he won't be able to compete like he used to due to his aches and pains, especially since he isn't using pain medication these days. There was a general feeling in his conversation with Ross that Angle was hoping to end his career in the WWE, but the photos circulating may have hurt him.

Angle kicked off his professional wrestling career with the WWE by making his debut in 1999 before leaving the organization in 2006 due to health reasons. Later that year, Angle surfaced in TNA and has been a part of that organization ever since.

Angle is a four-time WWE Champion and five-time TNA Champion but it's unknown if the "Olympic Hero" will ever step foot in a WWE ring again.
