The Oakland Raiders have agreed to trade quarterback Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Schefter reports that the Raiders will receive a conditional 7th round pick in 2014 if Palmer starts 13 games.

Palmer met with Cardinals team personnel in the Phoenix area Monday night and is still in the area, a source told ESPN.

Acquiring Palmer solidifies the quarterback position, a problem Arizona has faced since Kurt Warner retired after the 2009 season. Quarterback Drew Stanton followed new coach Bruce Arians from Indianapolis to Arizona, signing with the team last month. At the time, Arians said he was confident Stanton could handle the starting job, but it's expected that Palmer would be the favorite to take over the starting position if acquired.

On Monday, the Cardinals released quarterback John Skelton, who started 17 games for the team in the past three seasons. The release and the Raiders decision to acquire Matt Flynn via trade from Seattle added to the speculation that the two sides would reach a deal in the near future.
