Arsenal has made a big splash by signing away former Barcelona standout Alexis Sanchez and inking him to a five year deal worth £30million. According to reports, Sanchez cut short a vacation to head to London in order to finalize the new contract. The deal is pending two physicals, scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
Arsenal didn't quit stocking up with Sanchez; they've also agreed to bring on £11 million right-back Mathieu Debuchy of Newcastle. The Sanchez move has major repercussions beyond adding to Arsenal. In the process Sanchez spurned both Liverpool and Juventus; he also swung the door wide open for Barcelona to make a much rumored move to add controversial Uruguayan Luis Suarez to their loaded squad.
Sanchez should be a huge boost to Arsenal; in the Spanish Primera Division this past season he notched 19 goals as well as 10 assists while firing off 66 shots. He also had one goal and one assist for Chile in the World Cup.
A move to acquire Suarez would cost Barcelona £75 million, but the ace finisher would be added to a side that already counts Lionel Messi and Neymar among its members. The Suarez move has been complicated by his poor conduct in the 2014 World Cup, however. He has been suspended from all football activity for four months by FIFA as punishment for biting Italian player Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder.
The bite was the third instance of Suarez sinking his teeth into an opponent, in addition to multiple other incidents of poor behavior and sportsmanship on the pitch.
