With the dust settling on a deal that almost took place between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves that would have sent Kevin Love to California, the Boston Celtics have now swooped in as a potential destination for the three-time NBA All-Star.

Carmelo Anthony Not Ruling Out Any Free Agency Offers

Things have been quiet on the Love front after rumors swirled that Minnesota was waiting to strike a deal with Golden State, but now that the plans on that deal have gone dark the Celtics are intent on contending for Love's services.

The Love speculation has died down a bit after last month's NBA Draft came and went and teams no longer had draft picks to offer the Timberwolves in exchange for their big man. That coupled with the fact that most teams are holding out hope that they'll win the LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony free agency sweepstakes has led to the Love talk going stagnant.

Dwyane Wade And Chris Bosh Uncertain What LeBron James Is Planning To Do

Now, it appears as though Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is working on a deal that would bring Love to Boston.

According to The Boston Globe, Ainge is gathering assets to offer to Minnesota and is looking to build up a package that would pursuade the Timberwolves to move him.

Minnesota originally had the desire to hold onto Love but with it becoming clear that the 6-foot-10 power forward wanted out when he becomes a free agent after next season, the T-Wolves may make a deal rather than lose him for nothing next offseason.

According to the report, the Celtics don't have a lot of cap space but can use a $10.2 million trade exception from the Paul Pierce deal by Saturday and the team could offer promising rookie James Young as a trade chip as well.

The Celtics are likely prepared to ship some future draft picks along with some promising young talent to Minnesota for Love, while Rajon Rondo is always the subject of trade speculation but may not be on the move.

The Celtics are coming off of a lackluster season where the team finished 25-57 and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division. Acquiring Love would be a big step in turning the franchise around next season.
