Clayton Kershaw's recent pitching performances have the Los Angeles Dodgers partying like it's 1988.
Clayton Kershaw's no-hitter vs. the Colorado Rockies helps Dodgers turn fortunes around.
Kershaw picked on the Colorado Rockies again - it was the Rockies that Kershaw no-hit on June 18 - giving up just two hits over eight innings to extend his scoreless streak to 36 innings in the Dodgers' 9-0 victory on Saturday.
Kershaw started the day with 28 scoreless innings, which was good for 11th place on the Los Angeles Dodgers' all-time pitching scoreless streaks, according to truebluelacom. By the time the day was over, Kershaw was in third place, behind only Orel Hershiser - the Major League Baseball record-holder with 59 scoreless innings in 1988 - and Don Drysdale with 58 in 1968.
The Dodgers' ace needs at least three more starts to challenge Hershiser's record. Dodgers fans are hoping that if Kershaw can help the Dodgers accomplish in 2014 what Hershiser helped the team do in 1988.
Dodgers Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully meets the Stanley Cup for the first time.
That was the last time Los Angeles won the World Series, beating the Oakland Athletics and the Bash Brothers - Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco - in five games.
Los Angeles has surpassed the San Francisco Giants and leads the National League West Division. The Dodgers are streaking - not quite like their 42-8 run last year, but are 15-6 in the last 21 games.
"You don't ever want to give up a run," Kershaw said during postgame comments as reported by ESPN.com. "I guess that's the goal."
Kershaw went 6-0 with a 0.82 earned-run average in June and started July staying hot.
"During this run, he's had an 'A' curveball and an 'A' slider this entire time," Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis said, according to ESPN.com. "They're both electric strikeout pitches."
Dodgers fans are hoping that Kershaw can power the team to its first World Series title in 26 years.
