Below are highlights of all four goals and brief recaps of each result.

Argentina 1-0 Switzerland

Goals: Argentina—Di Maria 118’
It took nearly 120 minutes, but Argentina was finally able to move past Switzerland on Tuesday, capturing a 1-0 victory at the death. A fairly contested first half saw both teams enter the break scoreless. Argentina would flex its proverbial muscle following the break, dominating possession and creating a majority of the chances. It was, however, to no avail. Extra time would be needed to determine the contest. Lionel Messi’s one moment of brilliance decided it. A slotted pass to Angel Di Maria was enough to see Argentina through to the quarterfinals.

Belgium 2-1 USA

Goals: Belgium—De Bruyne 93’, Lukaku 105’; Green 107’
Belgium was finally able to dispose of the United States on Tuesday, capturing a 2-1 victory in Salvador. Dominance was the name of the game for a majority of the match, seeing Belgium out-shoot the United States 39-17. In fact, the Red Devils had 17 shots on goal to the Yanks’ five. It would finally pay off in extra time. A goal in the 93rd minute from Kevin De Bruyne set the stage. Romelu Lukaku closed the curtains just 12 minutes later. Julian Green was able to pull one back for the United States, but it was too little too late.
