The Los Angeles Clippers could be looking to reunite free agent Paul Pierce and coach Doc Rivers this offseason. According to ESPN's Marc Stein, due to Jason Kidd’s departure from the Brooklyn Nets, the Clippers could persuade Pierce to join Rivers in Los Angeles.
Stein reported in May that Pierce could look to chase a championship with his former coach and there have been rumors for years of both Pierce and Kevin Garnett having interesting Los Angeles.
“If KG decides to play on, those who know him well say Pierce’s incentive to stay in Brooklyn naturally spikes. If Garnett decides it’s time to stop, Pierce is bound to be intrigued even more by the scenario that is said to be on his radar already: Reuniting with Doc Rivers in Clipperland in what would also be a homecoming for the Los Angeles native.”
Pierce is drawing increasing interest from around the league despite averaging a career-low 13.5 points per game in 2013-14. The Portland Trailblazers, Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets are all expected to pursue Pierce during the free agency period, but many believe he could end up back in Boston.
The 36-year-old Pierce is on the last legs of his career, but could still play a solid role for a contender looking for veteran leadership and experience.
