The Philadelphia Flyers continue their hunt to trade Vinny Lecavalier and his $4.5 million salary, but on Monday they had a deal in place that fell apart leafs minute. The Nashville Predators were willing to take Lecavalier off their hands until something destroyed the trade in the 11th hour.

According to CSN Philly, the Flyers have been trying to move Lecavalier since the draft and general manager Ron Hextall has been weighing his options nonstop.

“According to a league source, the Preds were willing to take the full cap hit for two of Lecavalier's remaining four years but not the entire contract.

Another league source said Flyers general manager Ron Hextall spent most of Monday trying to find a deal for Lecavalier in addition to qualifying some restricted free agents.”

Lecavalier was a huge disappointment in his first season with the Flyers as he only managed to muster 37 points in 69 games, with a minus-16 rating. Lecavalier was drawn to the Flyers due to Peter Laviolette’s focus on offense as opposed to new head coach Craig Berube’s more laid back style of play.

The Flyers are not expected to be big spenders come free agency, but they are expected to move Lecavalier in the coming days. The Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators remain options for the 34-year-old center despite both teams having failed trade opportunities in the early goings.

The Flyers were focused on trading Lecavalier before they had to pay him a $2 million bonus that he is due Tuesday.
