Johnny Manziel expects to be the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback come opening day.

"Absolutely," Manziel told NFL.com when asked if he expected to be the starter when the Browns face Pittsburgh in Week 1. "I want to play. That's what anybody wants to do. Anybody that's been a starter in the past, and been playing, they want to play. To say I don't want to be the starter, that would be ridiculous."

Yet everyone from NFL Hall of Famers, Joe Montana, Emmitt Smith and Warren Moon have questioned just how much Manziel might really care about competing given all his partying ways and carefree lifestyle.

Since being drafted with the No. 22 pick in the first round by the Browns, Manziel has sparked nearly as much interest for his frequent club scene appearance as much as anything he's done on the gridiron.

Currently, Brian Hoyer is listed as the Browns starter, but the former Heisman Trophy winner isn't conceding anything, even admitting he's hoping to use what he learns from Hoyer to take his job.

"What I can learn from him, from a routine standpoint, from a knowledge standpoint, and where I need to get to," he said. "When camp starts, I'll have a better grasp of the playbook. It won't feel like I'm brand new to everything. But still, I think everything coach [Mike] Pettine said was spot on, that Brian obviously is ahead -- he's been doing this a lot longer than I have. I'm a rookie, and so I have a lot of ground to catch up on."

And Johnny Football is convinced he can do it.
