Houston Texans pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney received loads of scrutiny in his time at South Carolina due to his desire to make it to the NFL with as few injuries as possible and not focusing on the college season. Many people have to re-evaluate what they think of Clowney as it was announced he played through most of the season with the sports hernia he recently had surgery on.
Clowney said that the Texans spotted the injury when he first arrived in town and they opted to get it fixed immediately.
"Just when I got here, they wanted to check me out and I told them there was a little pain," Clowney said. "They were like we just don't want it to linger over into the season, so we got it taken care of before anything happened."
Earlier this month, Clowney spoke about his recovery time and that he would take it slow to avoid setbacks.
"The pain, the injury's getting better every day, day by day," Clowney said "Just looking forward to getting healthy and looking forward to training camp.”
In his last season at South Carolina, Clowney totaled 40 tackles including 11.5 tackles for loss. He also tallied three sacks which was a mighty drop off from the 13 sacks he had the season prior.
The Texans selected Clowney with the No. 1 overall selection in May’s draft with the plan to pair the dynamic pass rusher with J.J. Watt and the rest of the Texans’ defense. Clowney is expected to be 100 percent for Texans mandatory camp at the end of July and for the start of the regular season.
