The San Francisco Giants have agreed to a nine-year, $167 million contract extension with Buster Posey, according to ESPN and multiple other media outlets. The contract is the longest in Giants history and covers 2013-21, with a team option for 2022. There is also a full no-trade clause for the duration of the contract.

The deal is the most money ever guaranteed to a player with fewer than three years of MLB service time - doubling the previous record held by Carlos Gonzalez's $80 million contract. It also holds a record guarantee for a player with four years service, surpassing Todd Helton's $151 million deal.

Posey led the National League last season with a .336 batting average and hit 24 home runs with 103 RBIs. Stan Musial is the only other player to win two World Series rings and an MVP award during his first three full seasons.

A source familiar with the negotiations said that Posey will get a $7 million signing bonus and then will receive salaries of $3 million in 2013, $10.5 million in 2014, $16.5 million in 2015, $20 million in 2016, $21.4 million in each season from 2017-2021 and a club option for $22 mllion in 2022. There is a $3 million buyout included as well.
