The St. Louis Rams selected Auburn left tackle Greg Robinson with the expectations that he would be the teams next blindside protector. Through the first few weeks of workouts with the Rams, Robinson has had some major struggles and Rams’ fans are holding their breath that he isn't the next Jason Smith.

Robinson is expected to play guard for the Rams in 2014 and then transition into the tackle position in 2015. Early reviews of Robinson at the guard position are not flattering and Robinson himself is starting to get frustrated.

“I didn't know what to expect, honestly. I put a lot of pressure on myself because I like to challenge myself. It's something I want to do and just stand out to the coaches and let them be comfortable with their choice.

It's just everything happens faster inside. Outside you have a little more time to kick. The guys are faster but these guys are just quick and trained to rush the passer. It's just about keeping my feet working and knowing when to pull.

Right now it's a lot of thinking going on, it causes me to move a little slower. Once I get up to speed, I can move with the snap count and stuff like that.”

This doesn't mean that Robinson is set up for a disastrous rookie season, but it’s not something the Rams wanted to hear this early in the process. Robinson was considered the best tackle prospect in the draft as he had the most upside, but he was seen as raw with a lot of room for growth.

Robinson could use the offseason and regular season as a learning experience as, last years No. 1 overall pick, Eric Fisher did. Fisher did not have a great rookie year with the Chiefs and also went through a position change. Its way to early to call Robinson a bust, but the fact that he is struggling in the early goings of minicamp has to raise a few eyebrows.
