After just one season in the City of Brotherly Love, the Philadelphia Flyers have given permission to Vincent Lecavalier and his agent to seek a trade.
Lecavalier and the Flyers seemed like a match made in heaven a season ago when Philadelphia acquired him, but in his lone season he only registered 37 points in 69 games, with a minus-16 rating. Head coach Craig Berube had said the team expected more of Lecavalier this season before he was demoted to the fourth line in the later portion of the season.
Lecavalier is owed $6 million in salary next season with another $2 million via bonus, so it only logical that the Flyers would prefer to trade him rather than pay the $4.5 million annual cap hit until 2018. There are no talks of what teams would be interested in the 34-year-old Lecavalier, but, it is unlikely that a deal will happen during the NHL Draft or before July 1.
The Edmonton Oilers are a potential landing spot for Lecavalier considering they have a need for a second line center. The New York Rangers are another option as they are looking for a cheaper option at the position.
The NHL Draft is June 27 in the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
