The Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings are in discussions that would bring Josh Smith to California. There is no word on when or if the deal is supposed to be official, but the Pistons are looking hard at moving last year's big ticket free agent signing.

According to ESPN, the Kings are looking to bring in Smith to join the likes of DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay.

“Sources say that Smith being swapped in exchange for the combination of Sacramento's Jason Thompson and Derrick Williams is one trade construction that the teams have discussed. Although one source insisted Tuesday that no deal is imminent, another source told ESPN.com that the teams have continued to exchange proposals, with Williams potentially being replaced by another Kings player such as Jason Terry or Carl Landry.”

In his one season with the Pistons, Smith was not the player the organization believed he was even though he averaged 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds a game. The Pistons' attempt to move Smith is the first move of new coach and president Stan Van Gundy as he attempts to mold Detroit in his image. This image that Van Gundy has clearly doesn't include Smith.

The Kings on the other hand are looking to get a player that could complete their backcourt and get them one step closer to competing in a brutally competitive Western Conference.

Smith would bring a veteran presence and a consistent competitor as he has averaged around the same numbers his entire career. Smith is a 10-year veteran and has averaged 15.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 34.3 minutes per game for his entire career.

The Kings can do a lot worse than Smith and if they can pull the deal it is a rare move that would benefit both sides equally.
