WWE Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett's status for Sunday's Money in the Bank 2014 pay-per-view at the TD Garden in Boston is up in the air after he suffered a reported shoulder injury at the WWE SmackDown tapings Tuesday night in Pittsburgh.

WWE SmackDown Spoilers For Friday

Barrett took on Dean Ambrose in a match that is set to air this Friday night on SmackDown and suffered an a shoulder injury which the WWE later confirmed was a separated shoulder. Following the match, Barrett was clutching his shoulder as the referee put up the "X" symbol to alert the medical staff that Barrett suffered a legitimate shoulder injury.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, there are conflicting reports from fans in attendance over whether or not the referee threw up the "X" symbol, but the injury was legitimate and Barrett was heard swearing by fans and looked to be in pain as he went to the back.

The injury was later confirmed by WWE.com and WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann said the injury was caused by Jack Swagger, who got involved in with Barrett and Ambrose after the match.

"[Barrett] sustained an injury to his right shoulder when he was thrown into the barricade by Jack Swagger," Amann told the WWE.com. "After Barrett felt an immediate pain and a pop, we brought him back to the training room and the exam showed a separated shoulder. We're going to do some additional testing this week and then sit down with him and talk about options for treatment for this injury."

Despite the fact that the WWE acknowledged his injury on its website casting doubt on its legitimacy, multiple reports indicate that it is not a staged injury and he legitimately separated his shoulder.

Barrett tweeted about his injury and said that X-rays on Thursday will shed more light on the severity.

Barrett's status for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match remains in question due to the injury.

Barrett is slated to face Ambrose, Swagger, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston and Rob Van Dam in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a contract for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on Sunday, but he may be kept out of the match due to the injury.

While details remain sketchy and the severity of the injury is unknown, the WWE's plans for Barrett at this weekend's pay-per-view are up in the air.
