Luis Suarez became one of the major storylines of the 2014 World Cup by rushing his recovery from a torn meniscus to attempt to rescue Uruguay from early elimination. He did just that, finding the back of the net twice vs. England to keep them alive in the group stage.
He's making news outside the World Cup though, as rumors of a move to Barcelona are swirling about. According to a former teammate Gabri, Suarez has always itched for a move to Barca. "'Luis Suarez has always wanted to play for the club and defend the Barcelona shirt," Gabri said.
"He has always wanted to head here someday, so I would be very pleased [if he did]. I also believe the club want to buy him. He would suit it well, he is very enthusiastic and would fit in nicely at the club."
Suarez proved his goal scoring prowess already in this tournament, and if he joined Barca would play alongside Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest player in the sport, and Neymar, a Brazilian youth lighting up the World Cup with four goals in three matches.
Suarez is in that category of player, and admitted he wasn't even at full strength for his World Cup breakout. "I was not really 100 per cent fit and sometimes this happens," Suarez said. "I was the other day really at the limits of my physical capacity, as I was for the last match with Liverpool last season. Last week I was full of cramps and I was tired but of course you have a certain experience and you can build yourself up and come to the next assignment and this is what I am doing."
