Byron Scott has emerged as the favorite to land the Los Angeles Lakers coaching job, with ESPN reporting the team has now interviewed the former Laker at least three different times.

With Kobe Bryant due back from injury this season and the Hall of Fame-bound guard's career winding down, the Lakers appear committed to making major changes this off season in trying to erase the stench of last season's 27-55 finish.

With only Bryant, the aging Steve Nash, Robert Sacre and Kendall Marshall assured of being on the roster next season, just what the Lakers will actually come to resemble remains an open book. Already, the team has been linked to everyone from Carmelo Anthony to Kevin Love to Klay Thompson via summer free agency or trades. The Lakers also own the No. 7 pick in a star laden draft, where the likes of Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid and Aaron Gordon will all be available.

Meanwhile, the 35-year-old Bryant has insisted he plans to come back as strong as ever next season, imploring fans to flush the stench of last year's franchise worse showing down the toilet.

Several media outlets have already reported Bryant has resumed his workout regimen and has even returned to boasting how well his surgically repaired leg and Achilles finally appear to be on the mend.

The Lakers parted ways with Mike D'Antoni soon after the soon amid rumblings from several players about his coaching style and rotations. Scott, who actually played with Bryant during his rookie season with the Lakers, has stressed he and the All-Star veteran have a good working relationship and have already talked on several occasions during the Lakers' hiring process.
