The United States national soccer team earned a point after hanging in a 0-0 draw to heavily favored Mexico Tuesday night in a World Cup qualifier at Azteca Stadium. The tie moved the U.S. into third place in World Cup qualifying for the North and Central American and Caribbean region after three of 10 matches.

The United States earned only their second point in history at Azteca Stadium. The U.S. is currently one point behind Panama and trails Costa Rica by a goal difference for their four-point tiebreaker.

Tuesday's match marks the third straight draw for Mexico, dropping them to second-to-last place in the standings. El Tri was plagued by poor finishing and dismal execution on set pieces.

The United States are 0-13-2 all-time when playing Mexico at Azteca, as it has served as one of the world's most imposing venues. The last time a United States team picked up a point at Azteca was during a 0-0 draw when the two teams faced in 1997.
