Kansas big man and future first round pick Joel Embiid got some more tough news Friday as it was announced that he would require foot surgery that would keep him out for 4-6 months. The injury is notorious in NBA big men and has ended the careers of Yao Ming and Eric Montross while hindering others.
Embiid’s surgeon, Dr. Richard Ferkel, said the surgery went without difficulty and that the big man will be able to resume his basketball career in time.
"Two screws were inserted into the navicular bone in Joel Embiid's right foot," Ferkel said in the statement released by Tellem. "The surgery went very well and I'm confident that after appropriate healing he will be able to return to NBA Basketball. Joel tolerated the surgery without difficulty and will begin his rehabilitation in the near future.”

It is unknown where Embiid’s stock sits at this point but rumors of the Boston Celtics being interested seem to put his floor at the No. 6 overall. ESPN’s Chad Ford had Embiid falling from the No. 1 overall pick to the No. 4 pick and the Orlando Magic. Ford is a huge fan of Embiid so it is unknown where experts who aren't sold on Embiid have him landing.
The NBA Draft’s first round begins on Thursday, June 26.
