The New England Patriots have been named as a co-defendant in a wrongful-death suit filed against former star Aaron Hernandez that seeks more than $3 million he is still owed by the team.

Attorney William T. Kennedy also targeted Kraft Enterprises as a co-defendant stemming from the July 2012 drive-by shootings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. Investigators have pegged the 24-year-old Hernandez as the shooter and Kennedy reportedly has also moved to freeze all of the rest of his assets.

Aaron Hernandez brooke?

According to CBSLocal.com, police speculate Hernandez ambushed both the men in a dispute that was sparked when one of them spilled a drink on him and failed to apologize. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Hernandez remains jailed without bail and confined to solitary confinement at the Bristol County Jail on first-degree murder charges in the June 2013 killing of one-time associate Odin Lloyd. Police have indicated they believe Hernandez may have killed Lloyd because of his knowledge about other violent crimes he is suspected of having been involved in.

Since being incarcerated, Hernandez has also been charged with threatening to kill a prison guard and his family. Hernandez was also briefly moved to an even more secluded area of the facility after attacking a fellow inmate while the man was still handcuffed.

Tats hold clues in Aaron Hernandez case?

CBS reported the Patriots declined to comment on the suit, but indicated the team has previously agreed to make the court overseeing the Lloyd case aware before paying Hernandez any more salary.

Hernandez is due back in court later this month in the Boston case.
