It was revealed on Tuesday night's live telecast of WWE Main Event that there will now be a second Ladder Match added to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view card that is set to air Sunday June 29 live from the TD Garden in Boston.
WWE SmackDown Spoilers For Friday
Seth Rollins came out on the program and announced the second Ladder Match will in fact be for a briefcase with a contract inside that is good for a WWE World Heavyweight Championship shot within the next year. Rollins announced that he is the first participant in the match and the others will be determined through a series of qualifying matches over the next week.
It was rumored that a second Ladder Match would be added after WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan had to forfeit the belt due to injury and couldn't face Kane in a Stretcher Match on the show. Bryan's recovery from neck surgery has taken longer than expected and his return date is up in the air.
John Cena Saves His Father's Life
With Bryan forfeiting the title, the WWE opted to put it up for grabs in a Ladder Match featuring Alberto Del Rio, Randy Orton, Cesaro, Sheamus, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns and John Cena, with the winner of the match becoming the new champion.
It was then rumored that another match would be created with up-and-coming Superstars for the briefcase as the WWE enjoys having someone carry around the contract to add a threat to the champion into the storylines.
It was then confirmed on Tuesday night by Rollins who reportedly debuted new ring gear at Tuesday's SmackDown tapings for the episode that is set to air this Friday. It is unknown how many participants will be in the second Ladder Match.
There was speculation that Rollins would face Dean Ambrose at the pay-per-view, but with the second Ladder Match added and Rollins announced as a participant that will not be the case. Ambrose is likely to be added to the Ladder Match as well.
Aside from the two Ladder Matches, the only other contest announced for the show is a Tag Team Championships match pitting the champion Usos against the challenging Luke Harper and Erick Rowan.
The stakes are high at Money in the Bank later this month, and with a new champion guaranteed and two Ladder Matches announced, it should prove to be an entertaining show.
