The New York Jets were very active this free agency and on paper look like a much better team than the 8-8 squad that surprised the NFL in 2013. Among the new players the Jets signed, Chris Johnson was one of the more high profile signees, but now plan on using him in a running back by committee. The Jets say they will run with the hot hand when it comes to the ground and pound that Rex Ryan loves.

Jets running back coach Anthony Lynn spoke about the running game and said that no matter who the Jets sign they are going to play their game.

"we've always played the hot guy. ... If you go in there and produce, you usually stay in.”

This isn't a surprise considering the way the Jets have played offense in the Rex Ryan era. The Ground and pound has been a lost art in the current NFL, but with the likes of Johnson, Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory the Jets should be able to run the ball better than most teams.

Johnson is the big loser in this situation as he signed on to be the workhorse running back for the Jets and he has never been one to shy away from the public eye. If Johnson sees a reduced number of touches per game, how long will it be before he starts to call for a change or push off the blame to others?

The Jets look to be reloading the running game and if Johnson can settle into his new role without causing an issue, the Jets could be poised to improve on their 8-8 record in 2013.
