Marshawn Lynch has always been a man of his word and the Seattle Seahawks know that. According to NFL.com, Lynch is contemplating retirement if the two sides cannot reach an agreement on a new contract.

Lynch has an unpredictable swagger to him that the Seahawks have known about ever since they traded for the greatly successful running back, but now he could call it a career. Multiple Seattle Seahawks said that Lynch told them that he would seriously consider retirement if Seattle won the Super Bowl, which they did.

“Asked by Rapoport if Lynch would seriously contemplate retirement now that Seattle has a Lombardi Trophy, the source replied, "He could. I could see him walking away."

Lynch is a different cat. Having saved his money, it's quite possible he could stand his ground out of principle even if he's only requesting a relatively minor raise that would put him second or third in the NFL's running-back pecking order.

Team sources have explained to Rapoport that they have added Michael and Turbin in the draft over the past few years because Lynch's actions are so unpredictable. As much as the team's brass loves and appreciates Lynch, they don't want to be left holding the bag if plans go awry.”

Lynch is an eight-year veteran and has played four season with both the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks acquired Lynch from the Bills for a 2012 5th round pick (147th overall, Tank Carder) and a 2011 4th round pick (122nd overall, Chris Hairston).

It seems the Seahawks have grown accustomed to Lynch’s unpredictability considering they have added plenty of depth behind him in the form of Christine Michael and Robert Turbin.
