The Cleveland Browns are expecting to know the status of star receiver Josh Gordon prior to the start of training camp.

According to ESPN,com, Gordon faces a year-long suspension after testing positive for marijuana in a recent league-mandated drug test. The violation would mark the second for Gordon, who was suspended for the first four games of last season for a similar infraction.

Josh Gordon facing season-long suspension?

"I think that's reasonable to say," coach Mike Pettine told ESPN of being made aware of the NFL's leading pass receiver in terms of yards status."We haven't been given a date, but I think in fairness to us, the league would let us know before camp. There's no information as to what their plans are. I think we're all comfortable in thinking we should know before training camp starts."

The 23-year-old Gordon caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards last season, but his unreliable off-field nature recently prompted team GM Ray Farmer to tell reporters "he doesn't think a superstar receiver is critical to a team's success."

Farmer later added "I would say 'how important are those guys?' Name the last big-time receiver to win a Super Bowl. Name the last mega-guy. Gordon matters to me because I like the guy and I think he's a really good player, but at the end of the day, when you look at the teams that have these mega-receivers, name the last guy that won a Super Bowl? There are none. The last guy that really helped his team get there was T.O. (Terrell Owens)."

Gordon attended the Browns recent OTA's, but only did light exercising and did not take part in any drills.
