The Los Angeles Dodgers sale price of $2.15 billion remains the record in American sports. Unless Jerry Jones ever decides to sell the Dallas Cowboys.

Jerry Jones laughs at notion of the Dallas Cowboys signing Brian Urlacher

According to Forbes.com, the Cowboys value is $2.3 billion, the highest of any NFL team. And that figure was based on calculations made in August of 2013. Also, the value is different than a potential sales price.

The next highest NFL team was the New England Patriots, valued at $1.8 billion, followed by the Washington Redskins at $1.7 billion. The Oakland Raiders were the "cheapest" franchise at $825 million.

The Los Angeles Clippers were thought to be valued at around $750 million until Shelly Sterling held a secret bidding sale, in which bidders had to submit blind bids with the highest earning the franchise. Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer bought the Clippers for $2 billion - even thought that figure is misleading because a provision in the contract allows Donald Sterling's wife to run $200 million charitable foundation through the franchise, si.com reported.

Jerry Jones supports Jon Bon Jovi as a potential NFL owner

Using the Clippers' sale price that was 2 2/3 times its value price, Jones would be able to sell the Cowboys for about $6 billion.

According to CBSSports.com, Jones patted himself on the back in April during a news conference about AT&T Stadium serving as host to the 50th annual Academy of Country Music in April of 2015.

"As you know, the Cowboys have not gone to the playoffs in several years," the owner said. "We have not gone, yet we're the most popular TV show there is on television. We lead all teams in TV ratings. We lead, 24 of the last top 25 shows were NFL games, and any time your Cowboys play they're up there at the top and leading. Now, what causes that? What causes that is creating some aura, creating some excitement."

Of course, the Cowboys had the "America's Team" moniker long before Jones bought the team in 1989 for $140 million. But he does deserve credit for building a stadium that makes watching the Cowboys a spectacle.

And Jones likely will not sell the Cowboys. CBSSports.com reported that the 71-year-old Jones will keep the team in the family when he decides to step down.

It would be interesting to watch a secret bid sale take place for the Cowboys.
