San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Colin Kaepernick will not face sex assault charges stemming from an incident at a Miami hotel two months ago where a woman alleged she was sexually assaulted.

According to TMZSports.com, the Miami-Dade police department announced on Thursday that Kaepernick, Niners teammate Quinton Patton and Seattle Seahawk Ricardo Lockett have all been cleared in an investigation that started when a woman told police she spent the evening of April 2 drinking and smoking marijuana with the trio, only to wake up to find herself in a hospital emergency room.

"No charges, no indication that a criminal act was committed," Miami State's Attorney's Office public information officer Ed Griffith told TMZ. "She was alleging that she may have been the victim of a sexual assault, and there was no evidence. She made a complaint and there was basically no evidence that there was a sexual assault. The complaint was investigated and found to be unfounded."

Investigators said a rape kit was administered to the woman, but no sign of a rape were found. Upon arriving at the Viceroy hotel, investigators said the woman, who admitted to having a prior sexual relationship with Kaepernick, was behaving strangely and may have been under the influence of drugs.

From the very start, the 26-year-old Kaepernick proclaimed his innocence and said he welcomed a full investigation. The Niners recently moved to sign the veteran quarterback to a six-year, $126 million extension.

Kaepernick had his best NFL seasons in 2014, passing for 3,197 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed for a career-high 524 yards and four more touchdowns.
