Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is currently recovering from a back injury that required surgery, but he says that wouldn't matter if it was currently the regular season. Romo told the Cowboys' official website that if it were the regular season he would be able to play through his current state.

Romo spoke to the Cowboys website and said he could play at this moment, and he is ready to give up his body for this team and his sport.

"I think earlier on, right after surgery, you kind of go through that mode of getting healthy -- kind of having to not do too much right away," Romo told the team's official website. "But now I'm to a point where you can push it and kind of go, and I feel like at this point I could play in a game if I had to.”

"You basically give up your body, in some ways, to play the game. It's a great joy to be able to play this game for a living," he said. "When you're done, and I'm done with the Cowboys, like I've said before, I'll have given my back and some ribs through that time. But it's been a great joy.”

Romo is walking into a Cowboys team that, on paper, is worse off than it was in 2013 and he is their saving grace. Through all the criticism, Romo is still a serviceable quarterback who ranks in the top half of the passers in the NFL, but gets massive criticism due to his knack for losing the big game in the late goings. With Kyle Orton on his way to retirement and Brandon Weeden being a Cleveland castoff, Romo is the only viable option at quarterback in Dallas.

If the Cowboys are going to attempt to compete in 2014, Romo needs to be healthy and he needs to go above and beyond the call of duty to get Dallas back into the playoffs. Romo coming back 100 percent from his injury is the first step toward that goal.
