Cleveland Cavaliers Rumors: Cavaliers Interested in Dave Blatt for Head Coach? Calipari Turned Down Job? [VIDEO]

The Cleveland Cavaliers have expanded their head coaching search to include international products. The Cavaliers are rumored to be interested in Maccabi Tel Aviv coach David Blatt to be their next head coach and enter the next phase of Cleveland basketball.

Yahoo Sports reports that Kentucky head coach John Calipari turned down a $60 million contract from the Cavaliers that would had spanned over a seven-year period and would had made him both president and head coach. Calipari signed a similar extension with the Kentucky Wildcats and said that his NBA return was never a real option for him as Kentucky was at his “dream job”.

The Cavaliers have moved on from Calipari quickly as they will pursue Blatt, who just took Maccabi to the European championship with a roster loaded with former U.S. college players. New York, Minnesota and Golden State have all shown interest in Blatt, but as an assistant coach.

The Cavaliers are looking to replace coach Mike Brown who the team fired on May 12 for the second time in three years. The Cavaliers own the No. 1 overall pick and aren't expected to be locked in on a player until they find a new head coach.

Blatt took over the struggling Russian team in 2006 and turned the team into contenders in a year as they appeared on the European championship in 2007. The Cavaliers are doing the responsible thing by talking to any and all options before plunging into their next head coach.
