Brazil is nearing the final stages of its preparations for the World Cup which opens in less than two weeks, although FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke on Friday said there's no time to relax for the host country.

Valcke toured all the host cities for one last time, and said that the country is almost ready to host the biggest sporting spectacle in the world this year. He told the Associated Press via Yahoo! Sports: ''Over the last few days I had the chance to witness preparations in the 12 host cities for the 20th edition of football's flagship event. 'Overall, we are getting there, with the teams on the ground busy applying the final touches.''

The FIFA big boss said that everything must be perfect by the time the games begin on June 12, adding that the fans deserve the best conditions and a warm reception from the host country.

He added that the first few days of the tournament will be critical since many highly anticipated matches will be played during this stretch. These games include the England versus Italy game in Manaus and the rematch of the 2010 finals between Spain and Netherlands in the city of Salvador.

Valcke said he was satisfied with the progress of the preparations across the country but also warned organizers in Sao Paulo, which has proven to be the most chaotic venue due to the delays in the completion of the Itaquerao stadium where the opening game between Croatia and Brazil will be held. A second test event will be held at the stadium this weekend.
