Mexico National Team: Starting Lineup For Ecuador Friendly Announced, Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez Benched Again?

After undressing Israel 3-0 on Wednesday, the Mexican national team will return to action on Saturday, facing Ecuador in an international friendly hosted by AT&T Stadium. The match won't feature the iconic Cuauhtemoc Blanco, allowing Miguel Herrera to put his starting XI for Brazil in focus.

Just don't expect Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez to be a part of it.

Per ESPN's Tom Marshall (via Twitter), Herrera announced his starting lineup 24 hours before the scheduled kickoff. It is listed as follows (5-3-2): Guillermo Ochoa; Andres Guardado, Maza Rodriguez, Rafa Márquez, Héctor Moreno, Paul Aguilar; Héctor Herrera, Luis Montes, Carlos Peña; Giovani Dos Santos, Oribe Peralta

Following Wednesday's tribute to Blanco, Herrera opted to substitute in Raul Jimenez ahead of Hernandez. This time, it's Dos Santos getting the nod instead of the Manchester United striker. The opportunity for Hernandez to feature in a starting role come June 13 is dwindling away. He'll have to justify his inclusion as a substitute in Saturday's friendly.

The other narrative to come out of Mexico's starting XI is the decision to feature Hector Herrera in the holding midfield role and not Juan Jose Vazquez. Herrera made 17 appearances for FC Porto this past season. In European competition, the 24-year-old averaged 2.2 tackles and one interception per match. He'll look to solidify his position in the starting lineup permanently with a standout performance against Ecuador.
