Devon Thomas, a freshman running back for the Oklahoma State Cowboys football team, has invited a particularly galling type of bad press to the university if reports of his arrest Friday morning are true. According to reports, the freshman rusher was taken into custody and charged with armed robbery and attempted murder.

The incident happened in Thomas' hometown of Broken Arrow, when at 4:00 p.m. he and three other men are accused of robbing a man at gunpoint, making off with the victim's shoes, money and marijuana. The victim told police the men told him to leave because they were going to "bust a cap."

The victim also alleges as he tried to leave in his vehicle, one of the robbers fired a shot at his vehicle that traveled through the rear windshield and "nicked" his headrest. Currently, Thomas is being held on $125,000 bond.

This incident is not Thomas' first brush with the law, despite being just 18 years old. This arrest is the running back's second since March, and according to reports he was also suspended for four games in high school. He had enrolled for the spring semester at OSU, and went through Cowboys spring practices.

With Thomas' behavioral issues appearing to stack up, the threat of his being dismissed from the team seems imminently possible. Last season the Cowboys running game was paced by junior Desmond Rolland, who rushed 176 times for 811 yards and 13 touchdowns. He teamed with senior Jeremy Smith, who carried 122 times for 485 yards and nine scores.
