The news of Sean Lee’s torn ACL is terrible news for the Dallas Cowboys, but could things get worse in the near future? Could the NFL get involved and investigate the Cowboys for having too much contact at non-contact practices?

Organized team activities are non-contact practices that are suppose to give teams some on the field time when they can put both their veterans and rookies in the same room. With the contact injury that occurred to Sean Lee, could rookie Zack Martin and the Cowboys be subject to an investigation to their practicing habits?

Coach Jason Garret said he preaches non-contact in these drills and said that no one wants to get hurt this early into a new season. The Dallas Morning News asked Garrett about his stance on contact in practice.

“We keep preaching, ‘Stay off the ground. Stay off the ground,’”

“That’s a really important thing. Injuries happen when guys hit the ground.”

It is unknown whether the NFL is looking into the matter, but with film of the incident making the rounds on television and internet, they could make a statement. Martin is a rookie and could have been a little over anxious and Lee has publicly stated his knee gave out on him before the hit.

Before it was revealed Lee had indeed torn his ACL, Martin had no idea how it happened.

“I don’t really know what happened, two guys playing hard and running to the ball, so we’ll see what happens,” Martin said. “It sucks to see someone go down. It happens and I can only hope for the best.”

Lee is expected to be out for the season with his second ACL injury of his career dating back to his days at Penn State. As of Wednesday, the NFL has not taken a stance on the matter.
