The time of the Philadelphia Phillies being the cream of the crop in baseball has passed as fast as it started, and now even their merchandise is suffering. Twitter exploded as a fan took a picture of a rack of Phillies “win” tee shirts that are on clearance for $4.99.
The Phillies currently stand one game above the New York Mets for last place in the National League East with a record of 22-26. The Phillies sit five games back of the Atlanta Braves for first place and four games back of a wild card spot.
The Phillies haven’t made playoffs since 2011 and are a far cry from the 2008 version of the team that went to and won the World Series. The aging Phillies are a product of when spending a massive amount of money can backfire as they are on the verge of total rebuild and a trade deadline fire sale.
Veterans like Cliff Lee, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins are all rumored to be obtainable by the trade deadline and if they were to be traded, the Phillies could see an even bigger dip in product sales. If you are a Phillies fan in need of some solid gear, now is the time to buy.
