Following Monday night's Memorial Day edition of WWE RAW, it is expected that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan will appear at the Payback pay-per-view event Sunday night in Chicago at the Allstate Arena.

Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley demanded that Bryan show up to Monday Night RAW in order to forfeit the title after he was sidelined by a neck injury which required him to undergo surgery earlier this month, and while Bryan did in fact show up to RAW in Tennessee, he didn't fork over the gold.

Now, the storyline has shifted and McMahon has given Bryan one more chance to hand over the title to The Authority and that chance will come at Payback on Sunday. It was initially reported that Bryan suffered a minor broken neck, however while the injury was significant it wasn't a break. Bryan sustained the injury from constant wear and tear he put on his body with his in-ring style through the years.

Chris Jericho Returning To WWE In June?

Bryan appeared on RAW and told McMahon that he would not be handing over the title, though he told the crowd that his injury is more significant than he previously thought. It's uncertain if that is the actual case or if it was part of the storyline, but Bryan's original best-case return date was sometime in June with the worst-case scenario being a comeback in August around SummerSlam, but the actual timetable is unclear.

Bryan said on RAW that there is no shame in handing over the title and coming back better than ever after healing, but then said that he didn't want to just hand it over to The Authority.

McMahon raised the stakes in a storyline that is slated to last for some time, by saying that she will fire Bryan's wife Brie Bella if Bryan doesn't give the belt up at Payback.

While there will be no title match at Payback, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion will appear in some capacity at the show this Sunday in Chicago.
