Turmoil is starting to brew between the Chicago Bulls front office and head coach Tom Thibodeau and it could force him out of town. Ric Bucher is reporting that Thibodeau would be inclined to accept his “dream job” as the New York Knicks head coach if the option was to occur.
Thibodeau has made a name for himself in Chicago and has become one of the league's best coaches in his time there. Reports are that Thibodeau would only leave the Bulls if the Knicks job became an option, thus eliminating the Los Angeles Lakers from gaining his services. The Lakers were the top team rumored to be interested in Thibodeau, but it seems the feeling is not mutual.
Thibodeau is not expected to leave Chicago, but the reports of his “dream job” being somewhere other than Chi-Town has to be discouraging. The Bulls are on the verge of being a top team in the NBA and holding onto their off court talent is just as important as holding on to the players on the court. Losing Thibodeau would be a massive hit to Chicago given Thibodeau’s reputation and his status as one of the NBA’s best coaches.
Thibodeau was an assistant with the Knicks from 1996 to 2003 and made stops with the Houston Rockets and Boston Celtics before landing the Chicago Bulls job in 2010.
