It’s no secret the New York Yankees are in need of starting pitching help, but could the help they need have been on the roster the entire time? Ichiro Suzuki has volunteered to pitch for the Yankees and the team might give him a shot.

Manager Joe Girardi spoke about all the long games the Yankees have played and said he could call on Ichiro if the teams gets into a blowout situation. Ichiro was incredibly happy to hear the news.

“I would be happy to help if they need me,” he said, his eyes brightening at the prospect of it.

“Fastball and slider,” he said “But like all Japanese pitchers, the splitter is my bread and butter.”

Ichiro pitched to one batter on the 1996 Japan All-Star game and forced a ground ball. If the Yankees find themselves in such dire need of starting pitching, you would have to think the team needs to go out and obtain a viable option. With the Yankees age and the fact that they have played a ton of very long games, it doesn't seem too out of the question to think a player like Ichiro could see some innings.

Who knows if the Yankees will let Ichiro make his Major League Baseball debut at pitcher, but if it does happen you can bet that it will be must see TV that nigh. You have to hope the Yankees give him that shot.
